Barbara was born on May 19, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts. She married the love of her life, Charles P. Reynolds on May 26, 1951.
Upon completion of her teaching degree at SUNY Oneonta, Barbara went on to teach elementary school in the Sidney Central School district. She began her forty year teaching career, which was truly her passion, at the Pearl Street Elementary School in Sidney, NY. She moved on to the Open Space Concept School for many years and finished her career at her beloved Sidney Center school. She was the epitome of a first grade teacher, combining her talents as an excellent and caring educator with her sense of fun and meaningful experiences for children and a commitment to teaching the work ethic she practiced throughout her own life.
One of her accomplishments in Sidney Center, which developed into a tradition, was the annual School-Community Thanksgiving Dinner and Holiday Program. As a dedicated and outstanding educator, not only did she teach hundreds of students to love reading and learning, but she mentored dozens of student teachers, her progeny, and other protégé’s to do the same.
Barbara retired in 1998, not from a desire to leave teaching, but to care for her husband, Chuck, until his death a year later.
Aside from being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Barb was a Girl Scout leader, a den mother for the Boy Scouts, a grade level chairperson, a head teacher in Sidney Center, and not least of all, a partner in the family auto service business.
Barbara is survived by her son and daughter in law, Charles A. (Butch) and Amy Reynolds of Franklin; her son in law, Albert Clune of Unadilla; her granddaughters, Erin E. Clune of Unadilla, Allison E. Clune of Binghamton, and Kimberly C. Reynolds of Albany; and her grandson, C. Christopher Reynolds and his wife Lindsey, of Colonie.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Charles P. (Chuck) Reynolds; her daughter, Deborah E. Clune; and her grandson, Paul C. Clune.
In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no services.
