Ruth Klueg, “Lady Ruth" (as her family knows her) 99, of Treadwell NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

Ruth was born on September 11, 1921 to the late Howard and Janet Irons of Lakewood, NJ. She graduated from Lakewood High School and went on to Nursing School in the Metropolitan Hospital in NYC where she earned her RN license. While in training, she met her late husband Christian Klueg. They married on July 12th, 1942. Together they raised 3 children. They moved from NYC and took up farming in Treadwell, NY After a few years, they moved into the town of Treadwell and lived there happily raising their family. While her children were young, Ruth worked in the Treadwell School in the cafeteria and years later when the children were older she worked as an RN in the Delaware County Infirmary. She was very dedicated to her community and enjoyed helping others as a nurse around town. Her favorite saying was “Have can, will travel.” Apparently she gave many enemas back in the day. She was active in the Treadwell United Methodist Church and later on in the Plymouth Church. While living in Northville, NY she attended Northville Baptist Church where her son was pastor and she was treasurer of the Berean Class.

She was a volunteer for the Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and the Red Cross. She filled many offices over the years in various clubs in the community, such as the Treadwell Community Improvement Club, American Home Craft Club, and even treasurer of The GFWC 6th district. She was a charter member of the Delaware County Senior Council. She loved her work with the Delaware County Office for the Aging. She also helped to bring the Bookmobile to Treadwell. She was very proud when she received Senior Citizen of the Year in 1983, as was her family. Ruth enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her trips back to her mother’s home in Scotland. She was very proud of her Scottish ancestry.

She is survived by her 3 loving children: Richard and Barbara Klueg of Northville, NY, Robert and Judith Klueg of Treadwell, NY, Mohammed and Janet (Klueg) Bajaber of Binghamton, NY. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and even had one great-great-grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews, which all adored her and will miss her deeply.

A graveside service will be held at the Croton Union Cemetery in Treadwell, NY on October 2, 2020 at 2:00 pm followed by a time of remembrance for family and friends at the Treadwell Park Pavilion. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be sent to the Treadwell EMS and Fire Department at 9202 County Highway 16, Franklin, NY 13775
