

She was born January 24, 1933 in Binghamton NY, the daughter of the late Emmett and Lyla (Schrader) Brink.
Ruth was a graduate of Binghamton North, the Class of 1951. After high school, she attended the CS Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Johnson City, NY and was a graduate of the class of 1954.
Ruth moved to Franklin NY in 1955 and was hired as a registered nurse in the maternity ward at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, NY until 1962. Upon completion of her MS in Education at State University of NY at Oneonta, Ruth was employed as a school nurse teacher from 1962 to 1978, at Franklin Central School (FCS) and also the A.L. Kellogg School in Treadwell from 1962 to 1967. During this time Ruth worked through the summers at Bassett Healthcare Network, O’Connor Division, Delhi NY. When she retired from FCS she continued to work full time at O’Conner until her retirement in 1996.
For many years, Ruth taught EMS classes for Delaware County Emergency Services and was one of the first females to teach such classes. She was a dedicated individual to her profession and also served as a member of the Franklin Emergency Squad for many years.
Ruth is survived by her three children, Mark Laing and Marleen Ostrander; Anna (Laing) and Douglas Knox; and Gerald, Jr. and Allecia Laing all of Franklin NY; three grandchildren, Daniel Robert “Bob” Nightingale of Charlotte NC, Amber W. Knox of Oneonta NY and Garrett and Jaime Scott of Franklin NY; eight great grandchildren, Anthony, Cameron and Madeleine Nightingale of Charlotte NC, Rocky and David Romano Oneonta NY, Addison Paige Scott, and Logan and Tanner Youngs Franklin NY. She was predeceased by her grandsons Jared and Garrett Knox and her very special friend of 20 years, Floyd Enninga of Dayton, Minnesota.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin NY from 5 to 7 PM at which time the family will be in attendance. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7 PM with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Franklin Emergency Squad, PO Box 8, Franklin New York 13775 in loving memory of Ruth B. Laing.
