
David was born September 9, 1943 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Dorothy (Beem) and Nelson King. He was raised in Toledo, Iowa with his sister, Sarah Jane. Along with school activities (including basketball and chorus), he mowed lawns as well as worked at his family's John Deere implement store. It was here that he developed his strong sense of work ethic. He graduated from Toledo High School and continued his education at Coe College, graduating with a B.A. in Business. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, where he developed life-long friendships. At Coe, he met Betty Martin through his good friend, and future brother-in-law, Tom Martin.
He had a long career in the optical industry which spanned many territories across the country. During their 41 years of marriage Betty and David lived in Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Dayton.
David was an avid golfer and member of the USGA. Other passions of his included music, American history and his precious lawn. He took much joy with his family and friends, and his beloved pets. He was known for his ready smile, infectious laughter and great storytelling. He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Springboro and for a time was its choir director.
His loving family legacy includes his wife, Betty, daughter Caroline Sarah and her husband Eric Vermander of Vancouver, British Columbia, son David Martin of Portland, Oregon, and sister Sarah Jane and her husband Hal Dvorin of Palatine, Illinois. David was preceded in death by his parents.
He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
