It is with great sadness the Hoobler family of Springboro, Ohio, shares the news of the death of our beloved patriarch George Lewis Hoobler. Pop was a loving prince and husband to Betsy Ulrich for over 65 years and a cherished and generous father to Chris, Ted, and Beth. His soul and spirit will be celebrated for the rest of our lives and the lives of the seven grandchildren he leaves in his wake. George was a mechanical engineer who served as an officer in the Navy during WWII. He had a rewarding career starting out at the International Nickel Company in New York. He moved his family to Cleveland in the early 60's and worked at Warner and Swasey, where he won several nation advertising awards; he eventually served as Vice President at Master Chemical in Toledo, Ohio. George was a singer; he had a beautiful instrument that he shared all over the world, singing in Toledo Symphony, the Cleveland Symphony, and starring in many local theatre plays. George exuded kindness in everything he did; he asked Hospice nurses how their days were going long before responding to their queries on his ability to breathe. Pop was a master gardener; his gardens were of the Jurassic Park variety--tall and mighty and full of good stuff. His delicious fresh vegetables fed many many people who were lucky enough to live nearby--he and Betsy were always delivering bags of produce to neighbors and to their devoted and hungry daughter and son-in-law who live around the corner. George Hoobler was a strong and gentle force of nature; his wife sang him their love song just minutes before he stepped into the next world. He died smiling.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Herman Knoll, who has been both physician and dear friend to our dad. His efforts and abilities in caring for our father most definitely extended our dad's ride here on earth for many a year--we are most grateful. We are also in awe and are humbled by the care of Hospice of Middletown, who came into our home with such dignity and respect and who cared for our father with reverence and skill. Our thanks to their staff, who became our family.
A celebration of life will be Monday, November 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM at St. Francis Episcopal Church of Springboro (225 North Main Street, Springboro, Ohio 45066). Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to kindly donate to our church, St. Francis Episcopal Church of Springboro (225 North Main Street, Springboro, Ohio 45066).
