

Jack Thomas Griffis, age 94, of Middletown, the winningest Knothole Baseball Manager in the history of Middletown passed away Sunday January 22, 2017 at Otterbein Of Springboro. He was born in Akron, Ohio on June 2, 1922 to Ottie and Vandela (McKoy) Griffis. Jack served as a Sgt. First Class in the Navy Sea Bees during World War II in the Aleutians with "The 51st. Bat Out of Hell". He retired from Armco Steel after 40 years. He was an avid bowler and loved ballroom dancing where he had many friends. He also was Co-Owner of Pleasant Hills Golf Club in Monroe. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia (Meyer) Griffis, a brother, Kenny Griffis, and a sister, Shirley Griffis-Murphy. He is survived by his two sons, Edward T. (Connie) Griffis and Robert L. Griffis; 3 grandchildren, Brandon, Conor and Ryan; also a sister, Pauline Cain and a brother, Richard (Pat) Griffis. Funeral services are 2:00 pm Saturday January 28, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 East Second Street Franklin, with Celebrant Dan Flory officiating.
