Johnny was a devoted gospel singer whose voice and spirit touched many lives. He sang alongside his beloved wife, daughter, and parents as part of the cherished family group, Sweet Spirit Singers. Music was not just a passion for Johnny; it was his ministry and a way he shared his faith and love with others.
He married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Benita J. Spencer, and loved her unconditionally. Together, they faithfully served as youth pastors, pouring their hearts into the lives of young people. To every child who came through their church, Johnny was more than a pastor; he was a source of unwavering love, encouragement, and guidance. Not one of them could say they were not deeply loved by him.
Johnny had a remarkable gift for connection. Everyone he met quickly became his friend, and he never forgot a face. His warmth, humor, and genuine kindness left lasting impressions wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny M. and Shirley L. Spencer, and by his loving wife, Benita J. Spencer, who went home to be with the Lord on March 14, 2026. His passing comes with the quiet sorrow of a man who deeply missed his beloved partner and did not wish to continue life without her.
Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, a testament to his dedication and sense of duty.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Allie Lewis (Donnie), and his cherished granddaughters, Maggie and Lillian Corley, whom he loved with all his heart. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.
Johnny will be remembered for his dad jokes, his music, his kindness, his deep love for others, and his faithful service to his family, his church, and his country. His legacy of love and compassion will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
