Joe was one of four children born October 25, 1945 to the late Steve and Beatrice Takach. Following graduation from Bishop Fenwick High School in 1964, Joe briefly worked at Aeronca Aeronautics until being drafted in the United States Air Force for service in the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Once stateside he began working at then Armco Steel, where he would retire in 2006 from AK Steel East Processing after 35 years of loyal service. Joe was a simple man, laid back with a great sense of humor, and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. His eyesight began to fail him in the last few years, so often times he would be found sitting in his garage drinking a cold Natural Light and listening to the radio. He enjoyed warm weather and when the sun was shining, he would sit in the driveway to soak it all in. Joe also enjoyed KitKat bars and scratch of lottery tickets, as well as listening to Elvis.
He was well-known and beloved by many in his community, bartending for several years following retirement at the Lefferson Inn. Those closest to him will remember Joe or "JoJo" as generous, loyal, and hardworking. His humor, toughness, dedication and work ethic served as an example to his children. Joe was also a lifelong Notre Dame football fan, a passion shared with his son, A.J. Of his many friends, Jason Howard is one the family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to for his loyalty, compassion and love as nature took its toll following a lifetime of hard work.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Beatrice, eldest brother, Jim, sister, Margie and granddaughter, Alexis Marie Walton. He leaves behind his wife of 29 years, Judy; brother, David Takach; three children, Ericka Eve (Jeff), Allison Merritt (Marvin) and Aaron Takach (Katie), born to ex-wife, SueAnne Urmston; grandchildren, Olivia and Braden; stepchildren and an additional host of relatives and friends.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to the staff and physicians on the Neuro ICU at Miami Valley Hospital for their compassionate care during the 2 weeks up until his passing.
