Lawrence “Larry” L. Hancock, age 59 of Middletown, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at Arlington Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Middletown. He was born October 24, 1956 in Middletown, the son of Clinton Hancock and Audrey (Dietz) Hancock. Larry was born with Downs Syndrome. His parents were told that he would not live to be 20 years old. Also, they were told that he would never walk or talk. Larry showed everyone!! At the age of 5, with lots of help from his brothers, Larry walked on Christmas day. From there he enjoyed a life filled with so much love and activity. Larry attended Doty House and Lincoln Center. He was one of the first to attend The Adult Training Center on 14th Avenue in Middletown. From there he worked at Goodwill in Fairfield until illness in January, 2013.
Larry went everywhere with his parents. From trips to Florida for the winter, camping, to going to the Middletown Sportsman Club to watch his dad shoot trap. Larry never forgot anybody’s name. Many times he would be in a store, go up to somebody he had not seen in years, shake their hand and call them by their name. Amazing!
He loved going to church. Larry loved music and dancing. The music would start and off to the dance floor he would go! Larry loved the Monroe Hornets, Cincinnati Reds and the Bengals. In meetings, when asked who he wanted to attend the next meeting, he would always say “Carson Palmer”! When taken to a Bengal game, somehow, Larry ended up on the field with the players and had his picture taken with his hero. Sadly that picture has disappeared.
Larry Hancock was a very special man in many ways. Always a smile for everyone.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; and his aunt, Barbara Dietz, who was devoted to him.
Larry is survived by his brothers, Daniel (wife, Lynn) Hancock of Trenton and Kenneth Hancock of Middletown; four nieces and nephews; and seven great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday at the Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Draxler officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am Wednesday until service time. Burial will be at the Woodside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; Dream Catchers VSP, Inc., 3481 South Dixie Highway #305, Franklin, Ohio 45005
