Madelaine Jo O’Guin, 80, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Trenton, Ohio, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. She was born on October 19, 1944, in Uhrichsville, Ohio, and spent most of her life in Centerville, surrounded by family and friends who cherished her kindness, strength, positive energy, and infectious smile.
Madelaine is survived by her two sisters, Gwendolyn O’Guin and Rondolyn O’Guin; her three children, Brandon Green (Amy), Brian Green (Hella), and Lara Johnson (Brent); her four grandchildren, Ashlyn, Amanda, Roman, and Alex. She is also survived by her former husband, Herb Green. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mercedes and Walter O’Guin.
After graduating from Uhrichsville High School, Madelaine moved to Santa Monica, California, to live with her aunt, study at Santa Monica Community College, and begin her career. It was there that she met and married Herbert Lester Green, and together they raised three beautiful children.
Madelaine dedicated her life to caring for others — as a devoted mother, a loving caregiver, and a cherished part of her community. During her years with the Dayton Daily News, she found joy in mentoring young newspaper carriers and encouraging them in their first jobs — a role that enabled her to stay connected with the community while working from home during her children’s early years. She later brought her entrepreneurial spirit to selling cosmetics, and when her children were older, she went on to work at Kettering Memorial Hospital.
A breast cancer survivor, Madelaine’s courage and optimism inspired everyone who knew her. Her strength and determination continued to shine as she returned to school later, earning a degree in Marketing from Wright State University and embodying her belief in the transformative power of an education. She especially treasured her years with NCR in Dayton, where she led new business and client programs for the executive office.
Creative and talented, Madelaine poured love into everything she made — from her beautiful cross-stitched pieces, including a cherished rendition of The Irish Blessing, to the handmade Halloween costumes, Easter outfits, and her daughter’s First Communion dress. Her baking was legendary, especially her Christmas cookies, a sweet tradition her family looked forward to every year.
Madelaine loved animals deeply, especially her dogs — Duke (both the first and the second), Abby, and Chance. Madelaine enjoyed aerobics, cycling, fashion, and quiet moments with a good book. Above all, she cherished her family; her children were her greatest joy and her proudest achievement.
Madelaine will be remembered for her selflessness, generosity, and the way she made everyone — especially children — feel seen, supported, and loved. She was a caretaker, a cheerleader, and a bright light in the lives of all who knew her.

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
