Mary Ellen enjoyed an active social life and enjoyed spending time with friends. Most of all she treasured spending time with her family. Al and Mary Ellen both loved to entertain and she was a wonderful cook. She was the perfect hostess, even when Al would call at the last minute to announce they were hosting a happy hour for colleagues. Many happy years were spent entertaining friends and family at Twin Lakes Iowa in a cottage her father built.
Mary Ellen was very proud of her Swedish heritage and passed down many Swedish traditions, especially Swedish dinner every Christmas Eve with her family. Her family has great memories of lutefisk, Swedish glogg, Lingonberries, Swedish brown beans, ostakaka, fruit soupa, riced potatoes and potatis korf.
