Our beloved Todd loved life and lived it to the fullest. Whether here or abroad, he made a difference in everyone he met. Todd loved to travel, especially in Europe. He was very passionate about other cultures and was able to see Italy, France, Venice, Greece, Germany, and the Vatican. He visited historic places that most people only see in books. If you ever met Todd, you would probably receive a casual “ciao” from him.
Todd proudly served in the United States Army for 5.5 years and held the rank of an E-5 Sergeant. He joined when he was 17 and served in Iraq from 2006-2007. He was ordered to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
His decorations and medals include two Army Commendation medals, two Army Achievement medals, Army Good Conduct medal, two National Defense Service medals, Global War on Terrorism medal, two Iraq Campaign medals with Campaign Star, an Army Service ribbon, and two Overseas Service ribbons.
Other service medals include two Armed Forces Reserve medals with M Device, Parachutist badge, Mechanics badge with driver-wheeled vehicles, Clasp/Driver and Mechanic badge with Mechanic clasp.
Besides being a decorated soldier, Todd was also a talented and dedicated teacher, whose love for helping others made him especially unique in this field. While in the Honors Program at Wright State University, Todd received his Bachelor of Arts in 2012. He went on to acquire his Master of Arts in Education from the University of Kentucky in 2014. He belonged to the Phi Alpha Theta RHO-Sigma Chapter and The International Honor Society in Education Kappa Delta Pi-Lamba Phi Chapters.
This opened the door for Todd to teach. Among other places, he taught in Thailand, Brazil, and Albania.
He worked for the Albania International School from 2015 to 2019. He held the position of middle and upper school Social Studies teacher, as well as holding the position of Academic Director from 2016 to 2019, concurrent with his Social Studies position.
At one point, Todd was also a TSA agent for the Louisville Airport.
However, Todd was not all work. He was fun to be around and had a strong love for Marvel movies. A collector of comics from a young age, he had a strong fondness for the cinematic versions of the heroes he read about in his youth. It is worth noting that many of those valiant traits portrayed by those imaginary heroes actually existed in the man that Todd had become. Among many other attributes, Todd was brave for his country, he sacrificed for his students, and he was loyal to his friends and family.
Todd Arthur Combs is survived by his mother Patricia (Jim) Collins, his father James B. (Iris) Combs, brother Travis Combs, and sister Dawn (Kevin) Nicholson. He will also be missed by two nephews, Michael Pruitt and Gabriel, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a very special friend, Marietta Walters. He also left behind his two cats, Cat (from Albania) and Smoke.
Todd left this world way too soon; he still had dreams left to fill and travels, untraveled. He was a wonderful son, brother, and friend. He was compassionate, forgiving and if anyone ever needed help, they could count on him.
A burial with Military Honors will be held at Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio at 11 AM on Tuesday September 2, 2025.
