

Vernon L. Condon, age 84, of Middletown, died Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. He was born November 28, 1929 in Butler County, Ohio, the son of Ora Condon and Grace Schubert Condon. Vernon graduated from College Corner High School in 1947. After graduating, he was awarded a New York Giant baseball contract in 1948 and tried out with them. Vernon served during the Korean War as Captain in the 981st Field Artillery, and was ordered to open the National Guard Armory in Lebanon, Ohio in 1953 where he served as Commander of "B" Btry, 136 F.A. Bn. For four years. Vernon retired after 27 years of service from Armco Steel Corporation, Middletown Works as the Superintendent of Production/Planning Department. Vernon was a collector of over 5, 700 Big Band LP records and was a DJ for many years, playing music for class reunions and anniversary parties in the area. His interests included golfing and was a 30-year member of Wildwood Golf Club. He also served on many local community benefit activities through the years. He was the loving husband for 65 years to Marjorie Schobert Condon. Vernon is also survived by his twin brother, Virgil E. Condon of Mason, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Joseph W. Condon and Truman O. Condon.
