Bill attended Franklin City Schools, was an outstanding gymnast with Don Sellman's gymnastics group, and graduated in 1970. Soon after, he hired on at Armco Steel, working in the coke plant and as an electrician. He spent many long weekends fishing at lakes near and far, with Lake Cumberland being a regular destination. After retiring from Armco with 36 years, Bill continued working at Patriot Machining. Bill always needed to be busy, and he was known to all as the fixer of anything and everything. In 2006, he bought a place at Long's Retreat in Latham, Ohio, becoming a beloved member and friend of the community. Bill also spent many winters at Paradise Lakes in Deltona, Florida. He enjoyed playing the role of handyman and was proud of his "Man Cave" at the lake. In recent years, Bill dedicated himself to building his barn and creating his dream of living out on his own, tinkering with his tools.
Bill was a friend to everyone he met and would give you the shirt off his back. Family was very important and you could regularly find him playing games with his siblings, nieces and nephews and entertaining the crowd with his tall tales. His proudest accomplishments were his two daughters, who he bragged on to anyone who would listen.
Bill is survived by his daughter Emily (Steven Black) Butts, daughter Elizabeth (Trevor) Baxter; sisters Carol Cole, Kathy (David) Burnett, Amy (Paul) Handermann, brother Jim Chamberlain; grandsons Paul, Bo and Sammy Butts; grandchildren Isla and Liam Baxter; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.
A visitation for Bill will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 North Main Street, Springboro, Ohio 45066, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
