His father Canh was an army officer. And his mother (Ma Tra) was a housewife.
Before the fall of Saigon in 1975, because his father was in the Vietnamese military, Bob’s parents wanted to find a way for him to leave Vietnam safely. Bob left Saigon by plane to Guam with his aunt and uncle’s family. From Guam they travelled to Camp Pendleton in Southern California where they spent over a month before being sponsored by an American family and settled in Fullerton, CA. Bob’s parents eventually immigrated to the US, settling in Oakland, CA and he was reunited with his parents shortly after.
His parents worked hard to start a new life in America. Unfortunately in 1979, his father passed away from cancer. Along with his mother, they moved to Hayward in early 80’s and his mother later remarried to Hoan Nguyen. Hoan Nguyen became a father figure to Bob throughout his life. Bob attended Mount Eden High School and went to college at University of San Francisco, graduating in 1991 with an engineering degree.
Bob worked in engineering, real estate, and started a few businesses before realizing his true calling. He wanted to touch people’s lives in a meaningful way, so he decided to go back to school to become a chiropractor. He attended Life Chiropractic College West and opened an office in San Jose. It was through his chiropractic work that God used him as an instrument of love and healing. His chiropractic business has helped out a large amount of people and had quite a devoted following.
In 2008, Bob married Thuy Mong Pham. They were blessed with four children, Sophie Nguyen (2010), Rosie Nguyen (2011), Nathan Nguyen (2013) and Vernon Nguyen (2015).
Bob loved to read and was quite the intellect. As many of you knew, he could carry on a conversation about any topic. He enjoyed sports, biking, photography, and traveling. Few people knew what a great salsa dancer he was. He put many of his hobbies on hold when the children came along, because he discovered that they were his biggest joy. Bob was very involved in his children’s life. He read to them, taught them poetry, taught them how to ride their bikes, and showed them how to be kind and generous to the people around them. He drove them to all their activities, and took them to explore all of God’s beautiful creation.
Bob was a deeply spiritual man and faith was the essence of his life. He yearned to one day be in heaven with God. Although we will miss him dearly, we trust that he’s finally home and we will keep his spirit in our hearts to move on.
