Carmen Delilah "Delle" Albano Domingo Castillo, O.C.D.S (3rd order Sister Discalced Carmelite), a long –time resident of the Sunnyvale area, joined our Lord in heaven, Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, CA after a long battle with her illness.
Born on November 16, 1949 in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she attended Bacarra Central Elementary School and St. Andrew Academy then finished her college at Divine Word College in Laoag City, Philippines. She and her siblings migrated to Hawaii in 1969 to join their family.
Delle worked at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) as a Lead Masking Operator for 13 years. She was in charge of many responsibilities until her heart started to develop some issues. While there, she formed lasting friendships with many people and through the years, she nurtured a strong camaraderie with a lot of them.
In 1990, she went on permanent disability. She had undergone 3 mitral valve open heart surgeries in her lifetime. However, this did not stop her from living life to its fullest. With her vibrant energy, one could not tell that she had any heart issues.
Delle maintained a close relationship with her children's father, Ben Castillo. In addition to raising her two children, Evelyn and John, her love of God grew incredibly strong and was a very devoted Catholic. She was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Peace Church in Santa Clara since the early 1980's. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Praesidium for over 20 years and was a professed 3rd Order Discalced Carmelite in the '90s. She was so compassionate and kind that helping others, especially the sick and needy, wasn't a task for her, but rather, she enjoyed doing it, pouring all her heart into it.
On her spare time, when not busy with her 4 young grandkids (ages 1-12) who have been the joy of her life, she kept herself busy by making rosaries and beaded rosary bracelets where she would distribute and share with everyone. Her creativity was so amazing, it required a great deal of patience and expertise. A beam of light was always visible in her face as she tediously put all the beads together. She also loved to sew clothes for herself and family. Her grandchildren's favorite pajamas to wear are the dusters she made for them.
Family and friends were Delle’s passion and delight. She spent many times entertaining and bonding with them. Delle always welcomed everyone into her home with open arms, a loving smile and cheerful hello. "Hello, anacco" (Hello, my child) she would always say to nieces, nephews, grandkids, and young friends. This is something many people say that they will miss hearing her say to them. Delle loved to cook scrumptious foods and created mouth watering desserts like her very famous puto, kutsinta, ice buko, and leche flan that everyone deliciously enjoyed.
Delle will be tremendously missed but her memories will never be forgotten.
