I first met Auntie Chek when I was 11 years old, when I was in the Philippines for vacation.  She was married to my late Uncle Rick, or Uncle Ding Ding, as I’ve always called him.  I immediately liked Auntie Chek.  She was very friendly, intelligent, kind, and she had a very pleasant and charming personality.  Those endearing traits never left her.   

During that vacation in the Phillippines, I remember her telling me about her hometown, Florida.  Hold on, what?!  Florida??  I was confused, until she told me it was the municipality of Floridablanca, in Pampanga, Philippines.  

That was one of the most memorable trips of mine to the Philippines, as it was also the first time I met my late Auntie Luz Sadsad, who was also very kind and charming.  Auntie Chek and Auntie Luz took care of me while I was there, and I was happy they were my new Aunties.  

Auntie Chek eventually migrated to California, and she and Uncle Ding Ding became famous for preparing incredible food for our family celebrations and gatherings.  It was a lot of hard work, but they were always willing to bring joy to family and friends, over many years and gatherings.  

It was their amazing way of showing their love.  

There was always extra food put aside for family.   Believe me…. we ate good at home and at work the following week! Those were the best “leftovers.”

We are saddened with Auntie Chek’s passing.  However I know many of us are happy to know she is with Uncle Ding Ding again.  

I can already hear, “My Dear” from the Heavens! 

When I think of Auntie Chek, I always see her friendly smile.  And I’m sure she is smiling down on us with that same smile. 

Heaven has received the other half of the Fantastic Chef Duo from Milpitas!

My condolences to all of Auntie Chek’s family, friends, and loved ones.  

We love you Auntie Chek.  Happy cooking in Heaven!
