

Alta Bates Medical Center, Oakland, California, surrounded by her
family. Corrine was the youngest daughter of Douglas Skye, Sr. and
Margaret Mentz Skye. She was born at Fort Yates, N.D. in 1950, on the
Standing Rock Reservation and grew up on the Cheyenne River
Reservation, both in the Dakota’s respectively and graduated from
Mobridge High School in 1968, Mobridge, S.D. As a student at Black
Hills State University she participated in the Upward Bound Program.
She loved being a student and later on, working with students.
Corrine earned a B.S. in Social Science at Black Hills State
University, Spearfish, S.D. and an M.A. in Human Resource Development
from Mary Mount University, Arlington, VA., And at the time of her
passing she was a Ph.D. Candidate at George Washington University,
Washington, D.C.
Corrine worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a Project Director,
Washington, D.C., was on the Board of Directors for the Second Chance
Employment Group, Washington, D.C., and New York City respectively;
served on the Board of Directors for the Red Feather Development Group,
Bozeman, Montana, owned and operated the First Principles Organization,
Arlington, VA., and was the owner of the Takota International
Organization, Alexandria, VA.
Survivors include her daughter Karen Waukazoo Nakai, granddaughters,
Jayde Rias Waukazoo, Kayla Rias Waukazoo, and Sequoya Nakai, & several grandchildren all
of San Leandro, Ca. Her sisters, Harriett Skye, Walnut Creek, CA.,and
Donna Marie Maday, Ashland WI., brothers, Douglas Skye, Jr., Solen,
N.D., Joseph Skye, Sr. San Antonio, TX., and Clarence W. Skye, Fort
Yates, N.D. She leaves many grandchildren, nieces and nephews and is
preceded in death by her parents and brother Thomas Skye.
Services are being held at the Guerrero Mortuary, 407 Estudillo Ave.,
San Leandro, CA., at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 10/15/11,with services
later at the Porcupine Cemetery, Shields, N.D.
