
Dakila Del Corro Baltazar was born in the barangay (or village) of Maypaho within Caloocan City, Manila, Philippines December 10, 1935. His early accomplishments include being a pilot in the Philippine Air Force, attaining a B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering and a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.
Dakila married Sonia Ferranco in 1960 and they had two sons. In 1968, he moved his family to Chicago, Illinois and worked at Sargent & Lundy Engineers, drawing and designing electrical systems for fossil fuel power plants. He was offered another engineering position at Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco in 1981 and the family moved to Fremont, California. He continued designing and reviewing electrical control systems for many of California's fossil fuel and nuclear power plants. After leaving Bechtel, Dakila traveled around the U.S. as a contract engineer and contributed his expertise at many of our countries nuclear power plants. In 1994, Stanford University hired him to work on the electrical control systems for their linear accelerator, also known as SLAC.
Dakila finally retired from SLAC in 2008. His favorite pastime and passion was playing the game of golf and he often travelled to the Philippines to play in amateur tournaments. In December of 2016, Dakila was stricken with an unexpected and unknown illness. He was unable to recover and succumbed to this illness on February 20, 2017, with his wife and family by his side.
Dakila is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sonia Ferranco Baltazar, oldest son Claro Ferranco Baltazar, and son Christopher Ferranco Baltazar. He leaves behind an older sister Pag Asa Barrientos, younger sister Luningning Auton, and two grandchildren, Alexia N. Murphy and Nicholas A. Baltazar.
