He loved to cook and pasta was his favorite food. As he had said, he can eat pasta almost every day. He was adventurous with food and was not afraid to try out ethnic cuisine. He liked to try out every restaurant that had delicious looking displays of foods but kept going back to the one he likes best.
He loved to read, and had a library card in every county that he had traveled to. He loved history, loved music (all of it)…well, a little less of the country stuff, but more on classical and opera, as well as blazing guitar rock. As a teenager in Massachusetts he listened to The Mamas and The Papas and their song “California Dreamin” and a big push from his dad inspired him to move West to California at age 19 and settled in the Pasadena area.
He was an avid football fan and The New England Patriots was his favorite team of all time. He had great love of horse racing which brought him closer to his Dad who shared the same passion.
He collected magnets of all sorts of shape and sizes. He had a passion for photography and specially liked to take scenic pictures and liked to take candid pictures of people in their most expressive moments.
He did his early schooling in the Dighton Rehoboth, Massachusetts school district and graduated from Brockton High School in 1971. An alma mater of his father (1952) and grandfather (1926). He worked a few jobs to support himself to college. He attended Cerritos College in Norwalk California and Pasadena City College in Pasadena California.
Shortly after moving to California, he met and married his first wife Donna. They had two sons, Michael and Gregory. The marriage ended in divorce in 1985. He met Lennie and married her which marriage also ended in divorce in 1991. He moved to northern California sometime in 1993 and settled in San Jose, then moved to Fremont in1996 where he met Delia and married her in 2003, and both settled in San Leandro, where he passed away in July 1, 2010.
David was employed and worked hard during his lifetime. Even though he worked hard, he never forgot his family and friends. He was a very private person and liked to keep things to himself. He enjoyed working in sales and joined Toast Master to improve his selling skills. He joined Lawson Products in 2003 and as an employee, he was conferred the company’s top salesmen awards of Masters Gold Award 2006 and Vic Vidor Masters Award 2006 for exceeding his sales goal for that year.
David was survived by wife Delia, sons Michael and Gregory, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren Caelin and Jacob, parents David Morris Straffin and Maryrose Jewett Fleming, brothers Steve and Dennis, and a host of uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces and relatives.
