

Estrellita “Esther” Cangco Andres, surrounded by her family, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, after a ten-year battle with lung cancer. Esther was born on September 8, 1954, in Baguio City, Philippines to late parents Corazon Cangco and Antonio Andres, Sr. She was the oldest of eight children: Emelita Ruiz (deceased), Angelita Galinato (Carlos), Antonio Andres, Jr. (Liza), Joseph Andres (Dion), Marivic Gebilaguin (Dave), Imelda Juan (Camilo), and Marie Antonette Andres. Her four children also survived her: Michelle Amores (Hector), Macky Anthony Bayquen, Minette Bayquen, and Meilin Asuncion (Miguelito); grandchildren: Jasmine (Sonny), Jessica, Mikayla, Michael Bruce, Joel, Mathias, Mikanie, Janelle, Josiah, Miguelito, and Jazelle; great-granddaughter: Malanie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Aunts.
Esther, also known as “Mama Esther” to her family, was also known for her unwavering faith and her role in the community. Her devotion to the Black Nazarene and the Virgin Mary was a testament to her selflessness. She always had an angelic smile and was full of love, regardless of who you are in her life. She was always there to lend an ear and tell you how proud she was of all your accomplishments and milestones. She was compassionate and had a special place in her heart for those in need, often giving her last dollar to them.
For those who wish to pay their respects, visitation services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, and Sunday, August 10, from 4–8 pm at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, 48800 Warm Springs Blvd, Fremont, CA. A Rosary and Funeral Mass is held on Monday, August 11, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Five Wounds Portuguese Church, 1375 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose, CA. She will be laid to rest at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Silayan West Garden at 12:30 pm.
