Fred, a.k.a. Rog lived a full and happy life, but unfortunately was called out in the last inning on December 3rd 2008. However, he spent many a successful time at bat. When the 1st baseman wasn't looking, Roger stole Phyllis' heart, and married his high school sweetheart in 1946 after returning from the Merchant Marines. He ran the bases as much as he travelled around the world.
He was born and raised in San Leandro, CA. After attending San Jose State, and discovering his love for baseball, Rog found himself on the field every chance he had. Only his heart for family life led Rog to turn down a position with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Rog took a part-time job at Chevron from which he retired 43 years later. Rog lovingly provided for his wife of 62 years, and was further blessed with a daughter and three grandchildren. A constant pillar of support and hero to his family,
Rog was survived by his wife Phyllis Mae Araujo, his daughter Pamela Jeanne Araujo, his three grandchildren- Ellen Marie Mayfield, Blaine Araujo Erickson, Alexandra Jeanne Erickson, his son-in-law Dana Joe Erickson, his sisters-in-law Jeanne Gieseke and Donna Freeman, his aunt Mary Ramos, and his nieces Susan Rozanski, Sandy Grathwohl, and Vesta Moody.
His sense of humor kept his friends and family in the highest spirits; Rog always saw the best in those he loved. Roger was a man of high morals and integrity, who adored life. We will all miss him dearly and hope you will join us to celebrate his life at Guerrero's Mortuary (510) 483-5300.
