
Major (RET) Francis McNulty, a San Leandro resident for 43 years passed away Thursday, March 1, at 80 years old from complications with pneumonia. Born in Lawrence, Mass in 1931, he enlisted in the Army at age 17. He served 7 years as an infantry and armor soldier ending his enlisted service as a tank commander, Sergeant First Class. He graduated from Artillery Officer Candidate School in 1955 and remained on active duty until his military retirement in 1969 after 21 years of service. He was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, and a M.A. graduate of California State University/Hayward. Service included Germany, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, & Okinawa. Awards included the Air Medal, Bronze Star (Valor) and Combat Infantry Badge. Following military retirement, Major McNulty began a second career with the Alameda County Probation Department, Juvenile Division. He served as Group Counselor, Probation Supervision Officer & Court Officer before his second retirement in 1989 with credit for 21 years of Public Service. Upon complete retirement, his hobbies included family time, reading, downhill skiing, building models, fishing and traveling the globe. He visited Russia, Iceland, Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia, England, Ireland, Belgium, France, Korea, Vietnam and ALL 50 states! He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years; Theresia; daughter, Patricia (Randy), son, Patrick (deceased); son, Bryan; grand children, Jason (Cheryl), Jeneill (Antonio), Joanne (Steve), & Joslyn (Marquise); great grand children, Jacob, Jordon, Jeremiah, Jace, Jaxyn, Jadyn, Madison & Damian, Logan & two more on the way! Viewing will be at Guerrero Mortuary, 407 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro, on Tuesday from 4:00-9:00 p.m. Memorial service will be at Our Lady of Good Council Church, 2500 Bermuda Ave, San Leandro, 10:30 a.m. Private family only burial is at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA.
