Huong Van Pham was born in Northern Vietnam on September 19, 1944. From a young age, Huong faced many challenges. Huong lost his father at the age of 15 then his mother at age 22, immediately after achieving his law degree. Huong was forced to help support his younger siblings. Huong believed God had him working as a lawyer in Vietnam so that when the war struck, he was able to lead the majority of his family to America through his connections. Huong led his family on a journey to Guam, Arkansas and New York before finally settling in the Bay Area. As head of the family, he took it upon himself to keep his family together. After meeting his wife Dao in the Arkansas refugee camp, they married in 1979 and immediately started a family with four children.
Huong did everything he needed to support his family in a new country from working as a social worker to working at a school district to being a stay at home dad, which forced him to humble himself in order to cook and care for his children.
For many that knew Huong, he has been a great example of faith in God. Not only going to church every single morning, he visited people in prison and taught catechism class to spread God’s Word. He always supported everything his children did even if it wasn’t what he thought was the best.
After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, Huong took every day as a blessing. He set and achieved his goal of seeing his daughters graduate from their respective Masters programs. Huong was also able to travel and reunite with family and friends. Through the challenges he faced, Huong's faith and belief in prayer helped in through. On July 11, 2015 God called Huong peacefully at home surrounded by family. Huong will be greatly missed by many.
