Rose Marie Yray, 83, entered into rest on Monday, February 7th, 2022. Her nickname was “Rio”, given to her by her mother. She was a social butterfly with a warm Aloha spirit that made everyone happier they met her.
Rose Marie was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 21, 1938 to Frank and Rose Correa. She was the third of four children, whom she grew up with and loved dearly. She was a graduate of Kaimuki High School. While still in school she started working in retail sales at Woolworths. She also made beautiful Hawaiian leis at National Dollar Department Store. In 1956 she met William “Bill” Yray. The two fell in love, were inseparable and shortly after were married. She was later employed at Dole Pineapple Cannery. Together they purchased their homes first in Honolulu and later in Kailua, during which time they had three children. In 1966 the family relocated to California with Bills job where two more children were born. Rose Marie’s primary role was being a loving and devoted wife to Bill, mother to her five children and caring for their home.
Rose Marie especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining and sharing Hawaiian hospitality, singing, playing ukulele, performing hula, Tahitian dancing and baton twirling. She was a great cook who loved to make and share Hawaiian, Asian and American foods. While at home you could see her cooking and listening to her children play out front through the window, always caring for them and loving them with all her heart. She enjoyed listening to music, especially love songs, Hawaiian music, classics from her era and later Christian music. She enjoyed making hand crafted crochet and jewelry items, playing card games, dominoes, “thrifting” and flea markets. She participated with Bill in the Pro Am Senior PBA tour and Senior bowling leagues.
Rose Marie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The world will be a lesser place without her love and smile. We take comfort in knowing she is with Jesus.
Rose Marie is survived by her children, Daryl Yray Sr. (Marilyn), Darlynna Swarts (Monty), Darin Yray (Kathy), Frank Yray (Lisa), William "Bill" Yray Jr. (Nicole), her sister Francis Achi, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
