Vesta Lee Davis, a long-time resident of Union City, California, died on Thursday, January 27, 2011. She passed away peacefully and was surrounded by those that loved her dearly.
Born in 1938, in Alabama, Vesta grew up with her three siblings – Lola, Lee, and Betty, where they grew up on a farm with open sky, verdant fields, and plenty of corn and cotton.
As a young adult, she met her future husband, Bobbie E. Davis, at church. The two eventually married in 1951, and later had six loving children – Ronald, Donnie, Johnnie, Jean, Connie, and Malcolm. The new Davis family moved around the country before permanently settling in California. As the family moved and grew together, they enjoyed boating at Don Pedro Lake and camping.
Vesta had quite a varied career where she worked in glass manufacturing, microchip assembly, and bindery. She was a very empowered woman who took on any challenge and overcame with the grace and skill echoing the spirit of Rosie the Riveter. Vesta perfectly balanced her work and family life and was the cornerstone of the family unit.
After retiring, Vesta enjoyed spending time with her now extended family. Every year, she helped coordinate the large Boggs family reunions where everyone shared wonderful food, great stories and laughter. She is survived by her six children, eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.
Vesta will forever be remembered as the kind, gentle, and loving soul she was.
