Just about 3 months back, family and friends celebrated the 99th birthday of Nanay Ning with lively music and dancing. Earlier today, March 14 most of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren once again gathered around her as she slowly but peacefully took her last breath. At 2:30 p.m., she was gone.
Nanay Ning leaves behind 2 siblings, 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 more on the way. We were all touched by her wisdom, kindness, generosity, and selflessness. She’s one of those rare people who always thinks of others before herself. Her senses (sight and hearing) have been slowly fading the last few years, but her mind was very lucid. She practiced to the full the Latin expression I first heard from her – mens sana in corpore sana (a sound mind in a healthy body) by daily exercise, eating right, reading books, conversing with people.
