William Soriano Quitalig, Sr. was born on July 5, 1932 in Pasibe, Urbiztondo, Pangasinan, Republic of the Philippines. He was the eldest son of Felipe and Aurelia Quitalig. His brothers were Ambrose and June and his sisters were Lydia and Jovita. On April 26, 1959, he married Anecita Rosario Agbuya (daughter of Enrique and Laureana) in San Carlos, Pangasinan. William and Anecita have four children: Anthony (deceased), Mary Jane, William Jr, and Elizabeth. William and Anecita have five grandsons: Kenneth, Kameron, Jacob, Jackson, and Joshua.
While in the Philippines, William joined the U.S. Navy in 1954. In 1960, his wife Anecita emigrated to the United States. In 1968, William, Anecita, Mary Jane, William Jr, and Elizabeth settled in Miliptas, CA. In 1975, after more than 21 years in the U.S. Navy, William retired as a Dental Technician and Chief Petty Officer. William was a Vietnam War veteran and he was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy. During his last tour of duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, as a means for a healthier life, William began jogging on the flight deck. Upon his retirement, William abruptly quit smoking.
In 1977, William joined the U.S. Post Office and after 19 years, he retired as Supervisor. While at the Post Office, William received awards for accumulating a tremendous amount of sick hours. William rarely called in sick to work. William could be regularly seen in his neighborhood jogging, and later in life, he enjoyed long walks.
Although retired from the U.S. Navy and U.S. Post Office, William continued his service towards others. He was an active member with his church, St. John the Baptist in Milpitas. He served as an usher and later, as an Eucharistic Minister. He would deliver communion to those who could not attend Mass. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
William and Anecita worked hard to support their children. After each of his children graduated from college, William embraced one of his passions - traveling. William, his wife, relatives, and friends made numerous trips to Europe. Among the places visited were the Vatican, Jerusalem, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Norway, Denmark, and Russia.
William had a passion for sports. Whether it was roller derby and "professional" wrestling which he and his father-in-law Enrique used to watch at the Cow Palace in San Francisco or whether it was his favorite teams (the San Francisco Giants, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors), William loved watching sports.
William greatest passion was for his family. Without question, William loved his children and grandchildren. His greatest love was for his wife Anecita with whom he was married for more than 51 years. It is because of William's love for family and friends that he will dearly be missed by all who knew him.
