Dorothy Fay Miller

Dorothy was born March 8, 1907 in Jamestown Township, to Lynn Edward and Mary Belle (Tubbs) Collins.

She married Clarence J. Miller on January 23, 1942 in Wabash, IN. and he preceded her in death in 1979.

Dorothy was a math teacher and retired after 34 years from Prairie Heights High School . Dorothy began her teaching career at Scott Center. She later taught at Fremont, Angola, and Orland prior to teaching at Prairie Heights High School.

She was a 1925 Orland High School graduate, and a 1929 graduate of Taylor University. She enjoyed reading, teaching, tutoring, talking on the phone, driving her car, knitting and doing crochet. She loved flowers, gardening, all her family, and her lifetime of many friends. She was a member of Nevada Mills United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was the church organist, and was a member of the women’s group.

Survivors include: her son Dr. Lynn E. (Irmgard) Miller of Marquette, Michigan, her two daughters Linda (Ronald) VanZanten of Lawton, MI., and Dr. Louise A. (David Peterson) Miller of Oakland, CA.; five grandchildren Kristin (Ken) Kytta, Kathryn (Steve) Oeverman, Scott (Jennie) VanZanten, Kevin (Emily) Miller, and Sara (Brett) Watson; eighteen great-grandchildren Karsten, Kurtis, Kolson, and Kalvin Kytta, Elizabeth, Annaliese, Olyvia, Amelie, and Ellyson Oeverman, Kaitlyn, Hayley, Claire, and Zachary VanZanten, McKenna, Hunter, and Bentley Miller, and Owen and Emma Watson; one brother Morris Collins of Fremont, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Miller, her parents, Lynn Edward Collins and Mary Belle Collins, two sisters, June Collins and Pauline Rhine, one brother, Paul Collins, a brother-in-law, Jim Rhine, two sisters-in-law, Edwina Collins and Dorothy Collins, and a niece, Mari Collins.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Indiana.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Nevada Mills United Methodist Church, 4710 West Bachelor Road, Angola, Indiana, with Rev. Steve Oeverman and Pastor Sam Hoffman officiating.

Burial will follow services at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana
