Never thought I had to live a life without you in it
Now I have to live a life without both of you and it just doesn’t make sense to me . A world without you both isn’t one that seems fair .

Years later and it still feels like yesterday. I miss you so much Herschel, especially now, take care of our baby brother for me. Until we meet again😪😪❤️

Today,  as with every day this past year, brings remembrance of you~ prayers for comfort is my only way to extend the love to everyone missing you~ xoxogaga 

Where do I even start? I will always be blessed to have been able to be loved by Herschel.  He was shy so I made my first move and jumped at the opportunity when he had a cut on his foot I’ll never forget when he went up to his apartment and told me his mom packed him bandages when he moved out. We talked for hours and left our friends downstairs we talked about our life’s. Herschel told me that he knew I was his person just how I knew he was mine . I told him I wouldn’t date him unless my son liked him and the first day they met they instantly hit it off and December 1st of 2019 was the day we started dating, torwards the end of that month he asked me if I wanted to have a baby with him I told him he was crazy and he said he needed a babygirl he needed a purpose in life that he was lost and  that he knew that’s what he wanted in life, to be a father.He planned Sophia and called her our love baby because she was created out of our love . Sophia was Herschel’s pride and joy he said she was his accomplishment in life the cutest smartest baby in the world nobody was more beautiful than his Sophia . He loved me more than I have ever been loved and I will miss him every single day. I will make sure our daughter knows how funny and charming smart and handsome her dad was and how much he loved her and Leo . He was a father not only to sophia but a father figure to Leo as well. There will not be one event in sophias life where I won’t be wishing Herschel was there to watch her by my side . I have made so many memories with Herschel that only me and him will ever know of  . The last thing you told me was that you will forever be my Gaurdian angel and i will do my best to be successful in life and love the kids for the both of us. To be loved by Herschel was a blessing to be the woman he loved was an honor. He asked me to marry him before he passed and in my heart he will always be my husband. Our love was toxic but it will be the greatest love of my life . -Gigi 

You were born into this world into a sea of girls. A sea of girls that soon formed a circle around you, making you the center of their world, all the while, your Light grew stronger and stronger.  

As Jordan wrote, many do not understand our family dynamic and how we raised our children more like siblings than cousins. However, a wise person told me, "it takes a village to raise a child," and this is precisely what we did.  So many memories of you that make me smile and proud.  

I remember many sleepovers where we would break out the Red Coke because Aunt Boogie lets us do anything, and when you were ready to fall asleep, the little arm would come out to tickle until you fell asleep.  You finally got to the point where you would turn your head so that I could kiss your "cozy corners" behind your ear and sweetly just say love ya, Boog, just to get it over because you knew it was inevitable. Then, the day you were so small and proud to show me the "Boogie Bench" so I could sit out front.  Your presence in the room made so many smiles and filled us with laughter.

As we now have one of the centerpieces to our family puzzle missing, I try to figure out how we fill it to get rid of this unbelievable sadness and void, and the only thing I can figure is we DON'T.  No one can fill that spot; it is forever yours, my sweet nephew.  As I know you will be the protector you grew to be; watch over us, Herschel, as we watch over your Sophia.  As she is the center of your puzzle, she is now in our ever-growing family puzzle and is our Light and link to you always.  

I will think of you daily and the life you brought to this world and will continue to bring-  I love you Herschel.

Herschel is what I would call a "bright light" in what is usually seen as a very grim, grey world. Everything Herschel did, he shined brighter than everyone else. Golf? Better than you. Car Sales? Knew more and could sell more. Video games? Making Money? Cars? Brighter and better than most - his light always stood out from the crowd in all that he did. That light was a gift to most of the people he encountered - his family especially. He tried his hardest to be a caretaker and protector of those he loved, no matter what. 

As his oldest cousin, Herschel had a very special role in my life. I spent many of his early years with him. He had a special bond with my husband, Billy, and in our early dating years he functioned as our "practice kid". We took him on outings, baby sat together, & traveled.  Many times Herschel & Billy would ditch me and go shoot BBguns, ride dune buggys & 4wheelers & other boy stuff. He insisted that I could be with no one else but Billy. 

When I was expecting my 1st child, Herschel was at the top of my list of people who I knew would honor the role of Godfather to my Baylee Jo. He wanted so badly for her to be born on his bday & waited up 48 straight hours with no sleep to be at the hospital when she was born. Unfortunately, she was born 1 day after his birthday but he made sure he was among the first people to hold her & spent several days with me at home helping me recover & care for her. That was the thing with him - he didn't just say he loved you, he showed you in his own ways. 

I am struggling to process the loss of Herschel & our family is each grieving his absence in their own way. Our world seems forever dimmer because his light is not in it. As each day passes, our family must find ways to take comfort in the bold statements of faith he made, remember the bright light Herschel brought to every room, & make sure his daughter knows what an amazing soul her father was.

Herschel was like his dad the first boy cousin/nephew among 5 girls who thought of him as there little brother.  He always was about his family.  I was blessed to spent many summers at Our families lake house with Herschel and my grandson Ashton. He treated Ashton like a little brother and protected him always. Our endless golf cart rides and walks to Tom’s doughnuts.  One summer Herschel and his cousin Ashton spend a week trying to catch a very large bass off our dock and with determination they finally did. The smiles on there face and excitement I will never forget  I miss you everyday and you will always be in my heart.

Words cannot express the sadness and grief that has overcome me. Many of you know my struggles through out this life were of my own making.  I will forever regret time that I have lost over the years with the people I love the most. Herschel was one of those people. Always brighten the room, and made me smile. He had a way with people and to connect with and touch everyones life he came in contact with. 
Some of my fondest memories of him where as a child.  Christmas mornings when he got his favorite toy cars and hot wheels, to watching him run  and play sports. Never forget the look on his face when he found out that his cousin Danielle was good at sports like him. that little grin throwing the football will stay with me forever.
Like many of us in life we sometimes lose our way and quickly can forget what's important in life.
Family.  If you have one . Hold them close. Our time here is limited and not guaranteed.  We never know what today let alone tomorrow will hold.
Make the most of your time. 
Live and live Well. .Today God willing and tomorrow  and the rest of my life , I've decided I am going to live for my Cousin.

Even though Herschel is my cousin he has always been more of a big brother figure to me. I'm glad I got to spend time with Herschel almost every day growing up. And even after he moved away from Florida, we got to spend all those summers together at Lake George. I'll miss the bike rides we took together all the way to Brown's Point, the games we'd all play while swimming by the lake front, the jet ski rides we used to take, and all the jokes you made because you were one of the funniest people I'll ever know. I'll never be able to grasp the fact that you're actually gone now. I feel your time with all of us was cut way to short, but the impact you had on every person you ever met is truly unforgettable.  I love you Herschel and thank you for always being my protector. Love, Reece

Sadly, I never got to meet Herschel, but heard many good stories about him.  It's never easy when someone so young is taken way to early.  My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, who remain deeply blessed to have had him apart of your lives.

Growing up, I didn’t have siblings to run around with. Instead god blessed me with ALOT of cousins. For those who didn’t grow up the way we did, it’s hard to explain how close we are. There wasn’t a weekend, holiday or life event we didn’t all spend together as kids. Growing up has pushed us all into our own directions, but the bond we all share will never change. 

My point here is that Herschel wasn’t just my cousin. He was like the little brother I never had. I remember Aunt  Kelly sneaking ice cream out of honey and pops refrigerator when she was pregnant with him, I remember how proud my pop’s was to finally have a grandson the day he was born, I remember Herschel learning to drive the golf cart before he learned to speak, I remember him running around the car lot like he owned the place, I remember sneaking him red cokes at thanksgiving dinner, I remember the little boy who was always our shadow running around Lake George, I remember how excited he was to share the privilege with me of being a god parent, I remember the day he took my now husband nathan golfing and told me “he approved of him and he was much better than my other boyfriends”. 

I will hold onto and cherish these memories forever. Herschel’s will always be the little brother I never had but God knew I needed. I know he will continue to watch over this family now as our guardian angel. 

Herschel,  You are my first grandchild. My daughters son. You came into this world being adored by everyone that heard your name. Everyone was quickly drawn into your life by all of us that shared our excitement.  I remember when we connected on a deeper level, our relationship with Jesus! I saw my father's eyes when I looked at you. (Not my biological dad). You were sensitive,  loving, lovable and so so loved. You will always be in my heart and I know, Jesus promises,  everlasting life. Thankyou for naming me Gaga, that was so endearing to me. Watch over your precious mom, dad, sister, little brother and all of us that are broken hearted.  Rest in peace beautiful boy!


Herschel:
You are my first nephew in a sea of girls. I love the bond we have shared since you were born. You are one of the best things that ever happened to this family and this is without a doubt the most painful thing we have ever experienced.  

I will miss forever talking to you on the phone and hearing you say...DEBRA,, WHAT'S GOOD!  I love you so much and don't know how we are supposed to get passed this.. There will always be a void in our family.  

Promise me that you will watch over us all. I promise you I will always make sure Sophia is taken care of and I will be there to support all of your friends in any time of need.

Herschel to me was the definition of living life to the fullest. We met my freshman year of high school through golf and every time I heard that we would be a duo on the course it brought a smile to my face. He simply knew how to make every situation fun and make everyone smile. My favorite memory is when we pranked a couple of other kids who we were golfing against into believing we were brothers. It’s a memory I hold even deeper now. May god guide you to heaven brother. You will be missed.

I met Herschel freshman year of highschool on the golf team of all places. He always found a way to make me laugh or mess with the other team in some of the funniest and greatest ways. Terrible and sad to see him go at such a young age and I wish his family the absolute best in their time of mourning and beyond. 

I grew up with him at Lake George! We were around the same age and always the youngest in the group, I remember we always playing baseball in the streets together with all the other kids. He was so mature at a very young age and he was such a character. He had a very good heart and he will be dearly missed 🤍
