Jack Claude Mays, age 94, of Montgomery, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Jack was born on April 1, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Claude W. and Jeannette (Copek) Mays.
He attended school in Detroit, and later served in the United States Coast Guard during WW II. He also served in the Air National Guard.
Jack married Evelyn M. Bonifield on January 3, 1947, in Inkster, Michigan, she preceded him in death on March 20, 2001.
He retired as a tool & Die maker for Carbolay, a Division of G.E, in Detroit, Michigan.
Jack was a member of the Lansing and Montgomery, Michigan, American Legion Posts, AMVETS, the Wayne Masonic Lodge, and the Fremont Moose Lodge. He enjoyed bowling in Coldwater, and playing golf.
Survivors include two sons, William C. Mays of Belleville, Michigan, and Stephen J. (Victoria) Mays of Columbia, Ohio, a daughter, Phyllis (Michael) Dow of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, grandchildren, Michael, Kim, and Roy, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Mays, his parents, Claude and Jeannette Mays, a grandson, Ronald Mays, and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Mays.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm Friday, April 13, 2018 at Beams Funeral Home, with Rev. Jon Bruney officiating.
Burial will follow services at California Cemetery, Montgomery, Michigan.
