JoAnne D. Mitchell passed from this life on December 9, 2025 at The Towne House in Fort Wayne where she had been a resident for four years. Born in Fort Wayne on April 27, 1931 to Fridley and Kathryn (Goyer) McCulloch, JoAnne was a proud South Side High School graduate (“the 49ers”) and attended Indiana University. JoAnne married Jack Wesley Mitchell on May 10, 1952. JoAnne and Jack eventually moved to the Auburn/Garrett area (“the farm”). They owned several properties on Jimmerson Lake and Lake James over many decades and spent weekends there before moving full time to Jimmerson Lake. She retired from Stanadyne in Garrett; however, her last place of employment (and possibly her favorite) was as manager of the gift shop at Potawatomi Inn in Pokagon State Park. JoAnne loved living at “the lake”. She also enjoyed painting, crafts, cats, dachshunds and shopping (lots of shopping).
JoAnne is survived by her son, J. Steven (Jacqueline) Mitchell, Angola, two grandchildren Julie (Jason) Newburg of Angola and Wesley (Kelli) Mitchell of Fort Wayne, six great-grandchildren, two sisters Denise Danielle Lundin and Teresa (Tom) McComb, a sister-in-law Carol McCulloch and several nieces and nephews.
JoAnne was predeceased by her husband, parents and her brother, Michael McCulloch.
