

Mr. Loney was born in Fremont, Indiana, on September 7, 1923, the son of Harvey S. and Sarah “Tillie” M. (Hyatt) Loney. His parents preceded him in death.
He graduated from Fremont High School in 1941.
He was employed at the Steuben County Farm Bureau Co-op in Fremont until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. While he served our country during WW II, he served in Europe and Japan and was later discharged in 1946.
He married Kathryn Waunetta Noragon on October 17, 1948, in Angola, and they had 54 wonderful years of marriage until her death on December 12, 2003.
Leon spent 23 years after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army at the Steuben County Farm Bureau in Angola. He later drove a semi truck for 20 years with ATL (Associated Truck Line), and then retired in 1983 from ANR (American Natural Resources).
Mr. Loney was a lifetime member of the Fremont American Legion Cassel Post # 257, was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7205, Angola.
Mr. Loney moved to Englewood, Florida, in 1987 from Angola, and he had just recently returned from Florida to live at Cameron Woods in Angola, and he was lovingly cared for by Concierge For You staff.
Surviving are three nieces, Jacqueline ‘‘Jackie’’ Foster Godfrey and her husband, Robert Godfrey, of Lake James and Heathrow, Fla., Karma Noragon Austin and her husband, Todd Austin, of Fremont, Ind., and Jo Hornbrook Lyde and her husband, Bob Lyde, of Pensacola, Fla.; a nephew, John Hornbrook Jr. III and his wife Linda of Japan; a brother-in-law, Wayne Loomis of San Jacinto, Calif.; and two sisters-in-law, Elaine Richards of Ocala, Fla., and Joan Noragon of Sebring, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Loney; his parents, Harvey S. and Sarah “Tillie” M. (Hyatt) Loney; a sister-in-law and her husband, Betty and William Foster; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Dale and Norma Noragon.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, with the Rev. Jon Bruney of Zion Missionary Church in Fremont officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery at Fremont, Indiana. With military committal services conducted by members of the Fremont American Legion.
