He was born on April 25, 1940 in Paris, Mississippi to the late Rube C. and Pauline E. (Goodman) Gunter.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Gunter of Angola, Indiana, children, Paula Dianne Gunter of Angola, Indiana, and Kelly (Josette) Gunter of Sparks, Nevada, six grandchildren, Mikaylah Rury, Destinie (Dewayne) Dexter, Joseph (Sierra) Hopper, II., Gabrielle (Chace) Rury, Zachariah Rury, and Keira Marie Gunter, and seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Roy Gunter of Atoka, Tennessee.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen R. Gunter, and sisters, Ruby Dunehew and Shirley Green.
