

Gloria Ruth Poorman, 86, of Fremont, passed away June 11, 2017 at Valley View Healthcare Center. She was born the daughter of Thomas and Hazel (Lang) Kerner on May 14, 1931 in Norwalk, Ohio. She attended St. Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio, and earned her bachelor’s degree. Gloria married Paul J. Poorman on November 22, 1956 at St. Paul Church in Norwalk, Ohio, and he preceded her in death in 2001. She was a devoted mother to her four children, loved to bake and cook, and made sure her kids knew how to cook as well. Despite her full-time career as a mother, Gloria also managed to dedicate her time to her community. Her greatest claim to fame was that she was the very first 4th grade teacher at Sacred Heart School and had also served as president of the Sacred Heart Altar Rosary Society. Gloria also worked as a social worker, was a volunteer for 10 years for Senior Friends out of Tiffin, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Surviving are her children, Mary (Steve) Mayle, of Fremont, Thomas (Julie) Poorman of Brighton, MI, Joseph (Judy) Poorman of Fremont, Kathleen “Kate” (Carl) Rusch of Tiffin, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Paul.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 4pm-8pm at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. A Mass of Resurrection will take place Friday, June 16, 2017 at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Chris Kardzis officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to the family.
