

Jack D. House, 90, of Fremont, Ohio died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Toledo Hospital. He was born May 14, 1925 in Fremont, OH, the son of Henry and Lucille (Keefer) House. Jack graduated from Fremont Ross in 1943, after which he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theater on the USS Lexington. After the war, he graduated from The University of Toledo, and went on to work as an independent insurance agent for the All American Insurance Company. He served as an Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge and was a member of the Fremont Rotary Club, the American Legion, and was a 50 year member of Gideons International. He was a former member and Deacon of First United Presbyterian Church and most recently of Grace Brethren.
Jack worked for the greater good of the city of Fremont, working with other Elks members to help local citizens recover from the flood of 1959. As part of his Gideons service, he enjoyed delivering Bibles to 7th graders at the Jr. High and to all of the hotels in Sandusky County. He was chairman of two School Levy Campaigns where he persuaded Fremont voters with his slogan “Vote Yes Twice.” He was successful in his campaigns, producing enough funding to carry the public school for over a decade.
In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling and playing the organ. He was a devoted fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and traveled the Midwest with Russ Sorg to witness the Buckeyes play at every Big Ten stadium and the Rose Bowl.
Surviving are his sons, William (Sharon Martin) House of Shelby, MI; James (Ann Kelley) House of Indian Land, SC; grandchildren: Jacob House, Levi (Sierra) House, Molly (Joseph) Goldberg and Andrew House; great-granddaughter Lola House.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 10-12:00PM at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio where funeral services will begin at Noon officiated by Pastor Dave Damschroder. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with military graveside rights performed by the V.F.W and American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to the Gideon’s Memorial Bible Fund.
