

Robert J. Schumm, 85, of Fremont died early Friday morning at Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont. He was born September 14, 1926 the son of George C. and Elizabeth A. (Dowdell) Schumm. He was a 1944 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School. He later graduated from Heidelberg College with a Bachelor’s of Arts followed by an M.B.A. from the University of Toledo. He was an honorably discharged Army veteran of WWII serving from 1945-1947. He married Patricia A. Sneider on October 3, 1953 in Fremont. Following his faithful service to his country, he remained in leadership roles in the community over the years. He was an Accountant at the Whirlpool Corporation for 33 years. He was a Past City Councilman, Ward #1 for four years; Past President of City Council for four years; Past Faithful Navigator of the K of C DeSoto, Fourth Degree; Past County and City Chairman for the American Heart Association; Past President of Personnel Association of Sandusky County; Past President of St. Joseph Grade School PTA; Past Council Member of St. Joseph Church; Past Board of Directors of St. Francis Rehabilitation Hospital; President of the Elmwood Residents Board; American Legion Post 121; Elks Lodge No. 169; Whirlpool Management Club; St. Joseph Holy Name Society; and Rosary Society.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia A. Schumm of Fremont; children, Therese S. (Thomas) Ward of Vermilion, Michael R. (Teresa) Schumm of Sandusky, Lynne M. (James) Franks of Fremont, Lori S. (Glenn) Misner of Clyde; brothers, Donald (Charlotte) Schumm and Thomas (Ann) Schumm, all of Tiffin; sister, Mary Scherger of Tiffin; brother-in-law, Vic Reamer of Tiffin; grandchildren, Colin & Alison Ward, Bryan and Jared Schumm, Erica , Matthew, and Sarah Franks, and Nicholas Walker. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold & James; sister, Elizabeth Reamer.
Calling hours will be Monday, November 28th from 2-4 & 6-8PM at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont. A Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday, November 29th at 10:30AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont, with Rev. Michael Zacharias. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church with military honors performed by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
