Moved to Tarpey village in 1961 as a 5 yr old kid and Al Pombo and David lived across the street! What a childhood! Having that race car in the front of our home priceless. David was always good to us kids in the block bless his soul too. When I moved to Madera as a young man and went to the races I went back to the pits and met Davy what he said! No way Johnny! Priceless

I REMEMBER GIONGB TO KERNYBOWLWE ALSO WENT TO SAN JOSE AT THE AGE OF 8 W/ MY BIG BROTHER JOHNNY 'O'IT WAS ASOME TO SEE HIM DO THINGS W/A CAR THAT NOBODY ELSE COULD.  I REMEMBER HIS LAST RACE AT CLOVIS SPEEDWAY HOW HE COULD DRIVE THAT CAR ON THREE WHEELS AND WIN THAT RACE AT CLOVIS W/THE T RACE CAR.  WHAT AN INSPEARATION TO ALL THE COMMUNITIES HE RACED IN,BUT THEY DIDN'T GIVE HIM ENOUGH RECONGNITION.  HE WAS AN ICON TO THIS COMMUNITY AND WILL BE MISSED BY 1,000'S AND 1,000'S OF FANS AND I WIL BE ONE OF THEM!!I GUESS GOD NEEDED A DRIVER HE AND DAVEY WILL BE DRIVING TOGETHER.  GOD BLESS THEM ALL.

My heartfelt condolences and sympathy go out to the Pombo family whom I have come to know over the past 12 years, although my parents used to take me and my sister and brother to see Al race at Kearney Bowl when I was just a toddler.  My sister, Karen, was an Al Pombo fan and my brother, Gary, was a Marshall Sargent fan so there was a big rivalry between them besides the fact that they were twins!  Though my memories are vague due to the fact that I was so young, I do remember sitting there watching the cars speed by and it being very loud. :-) Al Pombo was a part of my childhood and some very good memories of growing up.   After meeting Al's daughters, I had the priviledge of standing on the race track with the rest of his family while Al received an award.  Having also have lost my parents and siblings, I understand how painful this loss is to Al's family.  Know that Al will forever live in the hearts of all that he touched with his kindness and a spirit that will never die.  I love you guys and feel fortunate to have been a part of your family. My dad worked for Al for several years. He was always very nice and when I got my first car, I took it to his shop for him to have a look at and do some repairs. He called and told me to come pick up my car. It ran like a top. When I asked how much the bill was, he said call me next week and I'll tell you. Needless to say next week would come and I would call and he would say the same thing for at least a month or more. I finally said, ok you've stalled long enough, how much do I owe you and his response was, "ahh, get out of here you don't owe me anything!" I was a young single mother at the time and this was such a huge blessing to me. He was a part of our family gatherings and always such a cherished friend. May the Pombo's be comforted in knowing what a wonderful man he was and by all the stories of his generousity that they will hear as the days go by. He's in winners circle now! May he rest in peace.

I met Patty and her family in 1976. I was at their home every weekend for years.   I remember how much Al loved Pat and his family.  He could seem like he was this gruff guy but he was just a teddy bear.  Always a great time to be had at their house.  These are some of my best memories.  My heart goes out to Patti and the family. Father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.  Whomever Al Pombo was to you one thing is certain he was a kind and loving man.  I have so many fond memories of him that I will cherish always.  I remember him giving me the little wooden cars at Kings Speedway and signing a new Pombo Classic shirt for me every year that I grew in size.  Much of my childhood was spent in Easton at Papa Al's house swimming and spending time with his family.  He always welcomed us as one of his own and spent many hours teaching myself as well as my brother how to keep the swimming pool clean.  My family and I are truly blessed to have known such a wonderful man and family.  He will be missed more than words can express.  <3 Alison

With a heavy heart I say goodbye to Al. He was a great man who was always so kind and generous to me and my entire family. When my grandfather (John Costa) retired from his job of over 30 years, Al and Tony gave him the "gopher" job which he loved so much. My dad (Burt Foland) had the pleasure of driving for Al on many occasions and winning often. I will never forget when our families would go to Pismo beach and have so much fun, it was truly one of the best times of my life. How could you ever forget that voice of his? Al Pombo was one of THE greatest NASCAR drivers ever. 10 Kearney Bowl, 7 State of California, 6 Clovis Speedway, 5 San Jose Speedway championships, goodness knows how many feature race wins and how many diffferent tracks. My dad had the pleasure of racing with Al in the 50's and 60's and I grew up watching him race every Saturday night at the old San Jose Speedway. I can still recall the crowds going wild over his battles with Marshall Sargent. After the races everyone would rush down to the pits to talk with their favorite drivers. The crowds were twenty deep waiting to see "The Mombo Man" and his circle 3 machine. My dad and I were fortunate to talk with Al at the Trophy Cup in October. We had our picture taken with him, one that I shall cherish the rest of my life. Al is now reunited with his loving wife Pat, daughter, son and all those old rivals like Marshall, Clyde Palmer, Rick Henderson and Bill Scott. Thanks Al for the service to your country and for all the memories you gave us for so many years. We will NEVER forget you !

AL Pombo was the best of the best back in the day. I was a young kid when I first saw him race the famed #3 at San Jose Speedway. In later years  I ran into him at the Fairgrounds in San Jose. I told my son he was the Earnhardt of hard top racing he was the man.

I will always remember Al and how no matter what he always made time for his fans. When they would ask him for his autograph or to have a picture taken with him he always made time for them.

I watched Al race at Kearney Bowl many times and was good friends with Big David through Jr. High and High School. I'll never forget the  "circle 3" hardtop or the kindness of the Pombo family when I was young.

Al will truly be missed by a lot of people,  My Dad and I still have the old "T" and I will never forget the tears in Al's eyes when he sat in it at Hanford some years ago and told me thanks for keeping it the same. I will always remember the old days of Kearney Bowl when I was little watching him.
