
Bernie passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at his family home amongst family members, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on November 13, 1933, in San Francisco, CA. He met the love of his life, Birthe "Bea" Tannebek when she was just 17. They married on June 9, 1956. Bernie attended school at Stanford, San Francisco State, University of California, Berkeley and University of Southern California, becoming a medical doctor.
He located to Fresno in 1962, and interned at the Veterans Hospital. He was a respected physician and talented surgeon for 50 years, and only recently retired. He brought comfort and life to countless families. He made a difference.
He was a member of San Joaquin Country Club since 1970. He loved golf, sports, hiking, sailing, snow mobling, bicycling and spending time at the Huntington Lake family cabin. He was very active! Bea and Bernie traveled extensively with family and friends throughout the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Ruth of Tiburon, CA.
Bernie is survived by his beloved wife Bea; daughter, Andrea Freeburg and husband John Engvall, and their children, Sven and Erika; daughter, Kirsten Coughlon and her husband Kevin, and their son Konnor; son, Paul Freeburg and wife Lisa, and their children, Paige and Faith; brother, Roger Freeburg and his wife Janet, and their son Jonas; and his many cherished loving and loyal friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at New Harvest Church, 698 N. Minnewawa, Clovis, CA, on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m.
