Dr. Charles "Wayne" Dunworth

Charles Wayne Dunworth, Ed.D passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 5, 2016, at the age of 69. He was born in Exeter, CA on March 4, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles (Jake) and Anne Dunworth and his sister Shirley Dunworth.

Wayne grew up in the Visalia area and graduated from Redwood High School in 1965. He attended the College of Sequoias for two years and graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1970 with a BA in Math. He earned an MA in Counseling from CSU Fresno, an MA in Education from Fresno Pacific University, and he was in the first cohort to receive his doctorate in Education from the joint program at University of California, Davis and CSU Fresno. He worked for Clovis Unified for 36 years, starting as a math teacher, subsequently becoming the head guidance counselor at Clovis High, and then the district Coordinator of Testing and Assessment. After retirement, he continued his life-long passion for teaching at Willow International Community College.

Wayne married Judy Hamar in 1970 in Visalia. Together they had 4 children, Jeremy, Justin, Michelle, and Jeff. He was an active and involved father, encouraging his children’s interests and supporting them in their hobbies and school projects, whether in sports, science, music, or history. Notably he was the treasurer for the Buchanan High Band Boosters for several years and participated in YMCA Indian Guides with all four children. He was a model railroad enthusiast, an avid woodworker, and he enjoyed cooking, traveling, visiting Disneyland and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Dunworth of Clovis, CA; son Jeremy Dunworth and his wife Dr. Lynn Russell of La Jolla, CA; son Justin Dunworth of Laton, CA; daughter Michelle Bulat and her husband Nick of Escondido, CA; son Jeff Dunworth and his wife Dr. Marisa Eisenberg of Ann Arbor, MI; and three granddaughters, Jillian, Lexi, and Delaney Bulat.

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.

A Celebration of Life will be held at G. L. Johnson Chapel at Peoples Church at 10:30am on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
