Daniel Ray Trapp (Dan), a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, went to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 7, 2025, in a boating accident at Millerton Lake, doing what he loved most—fishing. He was 81 years old.
Dan was born on September 2, 1943, to his parents, Veto and Ruth Trapp, in Kansas. He was the oldest of five siblings: Ken, Rita, David, and Lynn.
Dan was living in Modesto, California, when he met and married Lois Fullmer, the love of his life. Dan and Lois married on July 2, 1965, and together they raised two wonderful daughters, Dannelle and DeeDee. After Dan’s 9 years in the Navy, they moved to Fresno, California, to be closer to his brother Ken and his wife, Sandy. That’s where their close-knit families grew and where they built lasting connections with many extended family members. Dan and his brother Ken shared a unique bond, with Ken marrying Sandy and Dan marrying Lois (brothers married sisters). Their families were always together, creating memories, celebrating holidays, and having tons of fun together.
Dan worked earnestly at both Sears and Pelco for many years before his retirement. First working at Sears for 28 years. Then at Pelco for 12 years.
Dan was proud of and loved being a gr’pa of six amazing grandchildren and one great grandson: Jackson and Baylee Hull: son–Reid Hull, Joelie Hull, Jake Hull, Colby Bauman, and Ali Bauman.
Dan believed in Jesus after his good friend Dave Knowles made him aware he was a sinner who needed saved by God through Jesus Christ. Dan depended on Jesus in everything he did. Over the years, he was involved in several churches, including Fresno Evangelical Free Church, Riverpark Bible Church, and The Well Community Church. At The Well, Dan and Lois looked forward to helping in the ReGeneration program on Mondays, where they made many deep friendships.
Dan was known by his family for his humor. One of his favorite dad jokes from this past Christmas was: “Can you all please stop asking Santa for the perfect man? I nearly got kidnapped 3 times today.” Most knew how devoted he was to his wife, Lois, always holding her hand and praying with her every single time they got in the car, at mealtimes, and throughout the day.
Dan loved reading and studying his Bible, reading through the entire Bible each year. Dan’s all-time favorite Scripture was Psalm 23. One of his more recent favorite verses was from 3 John 4: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth.”
Dan went to Heaven doing what he loved: fishing with his good friend Dennis Penner. He spent his last morning with Lois and his dog, Maggie, chatting about how great his day would be, not knowing it would be the day he would meet Jesus.
Dan was a hardworking, content, and generous man who dearly loved Lois and his family. He had a natural talent for fixing things around the house and yard, and found joy in his garden and fruit trees. He always had a library book, but fishing was his priority; an expert fisherman, he went weekly to the lake.
Special to Dan, and still living, is his wife, Lois, of almost 60 years; daughters, Dannelle Hull (and husband Daniel) and DeeDee Bauman (and husband Mike); grandchildren; great-grandson; siblings; in-laws; and a large extended family, including Scott and Sofia Trapp (of Sweden), Janet Fullmer, and Keith, Karen, Ava, West, and Charlie (of Auburn); and his fishing buddy John Green, along with many precious nieces, nephews, and friends.
We will be celebrating Dan’s life at The Well Community Church, Fig Campus, 4545 N Palm Ave, Fresno, CA 93704, on Friday, April 25th at 2pm. While we will miss him incredibly, we have total peace knowing that he is with Jesus, whom he loved and served so faithfully. We know we will see him again one day in Heaven.
There is a public viewing for those who need that kind of closure at Whitehurst Funeral Home, 836 E Nees Ave, Fresno, CA 93720 from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, March 31, 2025.
The family will have a private graveside service.
