

Daniel Richard Hoff, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday January 16, 2016. He died at his home in Fresno after an extended time in hospice. Dan was born in Fresno on August 12, 1925 to Konrad and Maria Hoff. He attended Edison High School in Fresno. Dan joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943, and served over two years during World War II. He served in the South Pacific as a Gunner’s Mate aboard the USS General Robert L. Howze.
After the war, Dan was married to Betty Jean Ruminer for four years. Betty Jean died in 1949. Dan was married to Irene Salley in 1951. Together they raised three children, Daniel R. Hoff, Jr., Janiel Hoff, and Diana (Hoff) Eaglin in Fresno and Visalia. They also called Cayucos and Durango, Colorado their home. Dan’s career was in Electrical Wholesale.
He was an active member of Visalia First Baptist Church and later, the Peoples Church in Fresno. Bible reading, gardening, woodworking and Genealogy were his passions. He was a lifetime member of American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR).
Dan is survived by his wife, Irene, of nearly 65 years, son Dan Jr. (Deb) of Hesperus, CO., daughters Janiel Hoff of Fresno, and Diana Eaglin (Steve) of Visalia, 5 loving grandchildren- Sean Tovsrud, Brian Hoff, Jennifer Caldwell, Katrina Lopez, Amanda Ladd and 10 loving great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Samuel, and many loving nieces and nephews. Was preceded in death by his parents, ten brothers and sisters, and one grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Fresno Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, AHSGR, The American Legion – 0509, Fresno.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Military Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Service will follow at Peoples Church G.L. Johnson Chapel at 11:30 a.m.
