After they met at Fresno High School in 1966, Doug married his high school sweetheart, Teri Humphreys, in November of 1968, one week after the passing of his father. A life-long craftsman and outdoorsman, Doug worked for American Forest Products before finding his career fit as a machinist for Electric Motor Company.
Early in life, Doug found passion in mechanics, racing go-karts, auto-crossing with his brother James, cycling to and from Yosemite, camping at Dinkey Creek, and attending races at Laguna Seca, Long Beach and Riverside.
As a skilled machinist, home projects were the norm. Doug's children observed and often became involved in many wood, metal craft, and home repair projects. His skilled hands were often seen drawing out work related projects in detail with dimensions - which regularly translated to garage projects with his kids, doing everything from building baseball bat stands, hat racks, bird houses, bookshelves, planter boxes for neighbors, soap box race cars and Adirondack chairs.
Doug and Teri reside in Old Fig Garden, where they raised their 4 children while also regularly attending - and sometimes coaching - baseball, soccer, ballet, swim, cross country, and track events.
Doug was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in his early 50's and suffered from a few strokes that affected his physical stability, which he managed through rather well for much of his retirement years.
Though rocked by health problems, Doug never was one to complain and took everything in stride, gallantly. He was steadfast.
Douglas is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Teri Coon. He is also survived by his son Samuel, and grandchildren Elyse, Paige and Brandt; his daughter Faith, grandson Mason, and son in law John; his son Eli and fiancé Deborah; his son Doug Jr. "Will" and daughter in law Annmarie, and grandchildren Quinten, Rowan, and Ian. Doug is also survived by his brother James Coon and sister-in-law Jan from Clovis, and his brother Thomas and sister-in-law Jan from Texas.
Doug will forever be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor, his faith, a passion for sports cars, love of animals, craftsmanship, and a profound love of family.
