Douglas graduated Fresno High School where he was a discus thrower. He went on to continue his education at Fresno City College, Fresno State University, and University of the Pacific where he received degrees in Chemistry and Pharmacy. He was a past member of Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity.
Douglas loved spending time with his family at their Shaver Lake cabins where he enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing, and planting numerous trees at each mountain location. He was an avid gardener as well. A love of travel ensued later in life with trips to: France, Hawaii, Alaska, Chicago, Georgia, Santa Fe, and Mexico. One of his favorite locations to visit frequently was The Tickle Pink in the Carmel Highlands.
Corvettes were a great passion of his. He owned several over the years spanning 1962 to 2017.
Douglas was a member of CSHP (California Society of Health-System Pharmacists), SSHP (Sierra Society of Health-System Pharmacists), the Shaver Lake Fishing Club, and Saint Columba Church.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Nona Thuesen, whom he met on a blind date at U.O.P., son Dr. Eric Scheid, daughter and son-in-law Karin and Tim Nora, much loved grandson Elijah Nora, and many dear family and friends.
The Scheid Family sends a sincere thank you and appreciation to Dr. Thomas Hackett and staff for their loving care and concern.
