When I flew out for Aunt Genevieve’s funeral, Aunt Doris had a family gathering attended by Aunt Elaine. I remember her holding court, sitting on a couch, smiling her sweet smile and crinkling her eyes at me. “She looks so much like Grandma Bry,” everyone said.

I cannot believe Aunt Elaine has been gone this long. Her twin Lorraine struggled with her health upon hearing this news. Though they were competitive, Mom missed her terribly. She actually loved and relied on her existence more than we ever knew. Huge hugs on this Syttende Mai of sad remembrance, Dianne and Richard. 

I have the priveledge to know Elaine. She was a wonderful, loving person.  I was one of her caregivers when she resided at the Fig garden retirement home.  Please accept my most sincere condolences.  She truly was a wonderful, gracious lady. I miss her and thank you for the kindness the family has extended to me. God bless her soul.


We didn’t see Aunt Elaine often in Minneapolis but Mom’s twin was ever present in our lives- an undercurrent shaping Mom’s perspective. 

I do remember the year Elaine carried her baby Richie through our front door.  She was elated, bursting with pride and delight. Of course we all fell in love with her chubby blond boy, whose smile melted his Mommy’s heart and sparkled her chocolate brown eyes.

I never knew Elaine’s middle name was Lucile until I read it here! What a revelation: some new side of Grandma that might never be explained. Who was Lucile? It’s not a  Norwegian name, nor is it Lutheran. 

I wish I understood everything about our near mythic grandparents and ten surviving children, who all lived for a time in a little North Dakota town named Manvel, south of The Canadian border.

We Bry kids loved Aunt Elaine's summer visits to North Dakota.  Aunt Elaine was very generous and fun to be around.  She was a very kind person, she will be missed.
