Bettie Gerringer was born in Fresno, CA, to John and Eva Simmons. Both were Germans from Russia. Her only sibling, Natalie Dunham, passed in 2006, at the age of 94. Bettie and Natalie were raised in Germantown of Fresno. Four other siblings passed away of childhood illnesses.
Bettie married her sweetheart, Bill, at the German-American Pentecostal Mission in Fresno on September 19, 1937. They enjoyed camping for years at Bass Lake in their motor home. They enjoyed life in retirement at Peoples Church with Pastor G L Johnson. Bettie and Bill were members there for 29 years. They were fortunate to travel with the active adults group from the church. Papa's passed away on February 28, 2011, at the age of 94 years.
Bettie was a devoted wife to Bill for 73 years, always a good mother and sweet grandmother. She is survived by her only son, William D Gerringer and his wife Cindy, and their children, Cindy Lee and William Richard; her only daughter, Gaileen Scritchfield of Montana, and her children, Mark Scritchfield and Jill Nichols; Bettie's special nieces, Sharon Hames and Gloria Biagi. Bettie loved all her family and Papa's family too.
A special thank you Lorene Roth for your devotion and sister, Carey Martina.
Many thanks to each person at Pacific Gardens for Betties love and care over the last nine years. She enjoyed fun activities, food, holidays and birthdays. She enjoyed being President of the Patient Counsel and delivering the mail to all patients, until two weeks ago. Bettie loved her room mate, Corabelle Magill.
