

Elvin L McGowan passed away in Fresno, he was 94 years old. He was born in 1920 in San Francisco to Patsy Morrison and Lee McGowan. He attended school in S.F. and later in Fresno at Roosevelt Grammar School and Central High School where he graduated in 1939.
He enrolled in the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1940. He was sent to the Pacific, captured on Corregidor Island in the Philippines and spent the next 3 ½ years as a POW until the Second World War came to an end.
He returned to Fresno after being discharged and married his High School sweetheart, Helen Jensen. They were married for 68 years and had four children: Bruce McGowan of San Diego, Dennis McGowan of Fresno, Terry McGowan of Fresno and Brad McGowan of Madera. He had four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He worked for Chanslor & Lyon Motor Supply Company, an auto parts distributor, for twenty years. After leaving Chanslor & Lyon he established and ran his own auto parts company for ten years.
Elvin and Helen traveled often, mostly in Europe. He had many hobbies including golf and ham radio. He was a member of the Fresno Modelers, building radio controlled model airplanes. He also, enjoyed gardening.
