Evelyn is one of seven children and joins her parents, Juanita and Frank Alviso, and siblings: Frank “Sonny” Alviso, Carlos “Carl” Alviso, Gerald Alviso, Jesse Alviso, and Lorraine Vizcarra. She is survived by her brother, Robert “Bob” Alviso.
Evelyn was born to Frank and Juanita Alviso on March 6, 1926, in Madera, California. She was a direct descendant of Domingo Alviso, a soldier that guided and protected the families that settled in California in 1775. She was proud of her heritage and the role that the Alviso Family played in California history, especially receiving a Spanish land grant that encompassed a large swath of the Bay Area surrounding the town of Alviso.
Evelyn attended school and lived most of her life in Madera, California. She also lived in the Bay Area for a number of years, but she returned to live near her mother in Madera when she lost her father in 1978.
Evelyn was known for her love of her family, beauty, her quick wit, and her ability to recognize a need and fill it. She was a great cook, an avid gardener, and fiercely loyal to her family with endless devotion. With her green thumb she got tremendous joy from taking care of her plants and flowers and watching them grow. She often hosted family get-togethers, parties, and occasionally cooked for weddings, showing her dedication to her family. She was the glue that held her family together!
Raising four children, primarily on her own, she was a dedicated mother and instilled in her children the importance of hard work, dedication to family, and being present in each other’s lives.
Evelyn leaves behind her four children: Geraldine “Jeri” Ortez, Alexandra Matteucci-Perkins, husband Michael, and Jeanette Vecellio, and Dennis Souza, wife Nancy. She will be missed by her Nieces and Nephews who loved her like a parent.
She was dearly loved and cherished by her grandchildren: Lisa Tow, Joseph Gerald Matteucci, Gino Vecellio, Gina Marie Scheid, Sheree Rodriguez, Thomas Souza, Brent Souza, and Jenessa Linde. As well as her many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, all of whom she was lovingly referred to as “Nana.”
In short, she leaves behind a vast legacy of love, laughter, and loss. She left a mark on our hearts that can never be replaced. Her strength, her determination, and her push for us to keep growing – to never settle – will stay with us forever.
Rest well Evelyn, well deserved. Each day a memory recalled, a heart broken
