Faye was born on June 7, 1920, and passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the age of 93. She was born in Paris, Tx. and moved to California with her family to the Porterville area during the Dust Bowl. She married at the age of 16, and moved with her family to Fresno County where she lived for 67 years.
Faye loved the Lord and eagerly awaited her turn to join His side in Heaven. She loved to share amazing stories of her experiences and life as she saw it over the nine decades she graced this earth. She was blessed with an incredible mind and awed those who knew her with her skills at Scrabble and Jeopardy. She completed complex crossword puzzles with a pen because using a pencil took the fun out of it. She loved reading and often finished a book each day.
She was a great cook and homemaker and after raising five children, Faye began a second career as a tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service where she worked until retirement.
Awaiting her in heaven are her parents, Elias and Tennie Pence; husband, Joseph H. Slayton; brothers, Alfred, Claude, Pete, Elvy, Bonnie, and Gene; daughters, Bernice Futrell and Judi Slayton; daughter in-law, Carolyn Slayton; and granddaughter, Mary Slayton.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne Slayton and his wife Diana of Yuba City, and Don Slayton of Clovis; daughter, Kim Lamb and her husband Jaye of Fresno; granddaughter, Tami Pafford and her husband Trace; grandsons, Joey Lamb and Mike Slayton; and numerous great- grandchildren.
The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the Physicians and staff at Saint Agnes Medical Center for providing incredible care and support.
A Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park on Friday, November 22, 2013, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Saint Agnes Medical Center; or The Fresno Rescue Mission.
