In 1952 George graduated from Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, and in 1956 he graduated from University of Illinois Medical School.
While interning at Milwaukee County Hospital he met a southern belle, and six months later he married Evelyn embarking on their 66 years together.
Beginning his medical career, George joined his father as a general medical practitioner, which included everything from house calls to surgery to delivering babies and often family therapy sessions. Then after completing a residency in radiology in 1968, George and Evelyn and their three young boys decided to escape the frigid Chicago winters and head west to California where they settled in Fresno. For the next 25 years, he was the Chief Radiologist at Madera Community Hospital.
With roots dating back to childhood, George brought the love of Chicago sports to California where he served as honorary chairman of the Rurik Family Chicago Cubs Fan Club. The enduring love for the Cubs has deeply bonded the Rurik generations where we sing each season (win or lose) ‘Go Cubs Go!’
George’s grandfather reminded him he was the last Rurik male and asked the Lord to bless him with boys. Three generations later, there are 17 Rurik boys with a bonus of 3 beautiful Rurik girls.
Preceding George in rest are twin sons Lee and Loren, his parents, and his sister Shirley. Still fighting the good fight is the love of his life Evelyn, 3 sons: Greg (Dion), Scott (Julie), and Alan (Jennifer), 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
George’s life touched many and can be summarized as; a man of integrity, wise, a gentle family leader, a friend to all, a true gentleman, and a man with no enemies. He wants all to know of his personal relationship with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Because of Jesus’ gift, George passed in peace and has the complete and total assurance of salvation and eternity in heaven.
